Environmental News: Eureka! takes a giant step towards a smaller footprint.

Eureka! and green consultancy EnviroFutures are working together to improve environmental performance at the national children’s museum in Halifax. As the museum’s Official Sustainability Partner, the Sheffield-based consultancy will work with Eureka! on a range of measures to help reduce the museum’s environmental impact and carbon footprint.
 
The first task on the list is a full environmental audit looking at the museum’s use of resources, its operations and processes as well as waste output. The results of this audit will feed into a specially-devised environmental management system, giving the museum the tools and mechanisms to monitor future output and ensure a smaller carbon footprint.
 
Eureka! Chief Executive, Leigh-Anne Stradeski said: “We hope that the partnership with EnviroFutures will help us develop best practice in terms of maintaining a low environmental impact. We launched the UK’s first interactive environmental gallery for children in 2002 when we opened Our Global Garden which focuses on the importance of sustainability and how each of us can make a difference. By working with EnviroFutures we will take another important step, putting into practice the environmental principles which our gallery emphasises. It is our ambition to stand out as a prime example of a sustainable museum and working with EnviroFutures will help move us in this direction.”
