Rio Tinto to join BP to build low CO2 power plants
Anglo-Australian mining group Rio Tinto is to pay $32 million (16.2 million pounds) to join a new venture with oil major BP that will develop power generation plants whose CO2 emissions are stored underground.
The venture will initially focus on hydrogen-fuelled power generation, using fossil fuels and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology to produce new large-scale supplies of clean electricity.
